LGBT Aging Successfully: 5 take-aways from the AZ COVID survey

Researchers Sally Dodds and Beth Meyerson will discuss key findings from the first (ever?) survey of older LGBT adults during COVID. We will emphasize findings from Pima County, and respond to questions. Key topics include 1) the COVID-related health status of older LGBT adults, 2) current risk reduction/protective behaviors, 3) impact of mental health of staying at home, 4) what we can do as individuals and 5) what we can do as organizations serving older LGBT populations.

Dr. Beth Meyerson is a research professor with the Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW). She is also affiliate faculty with the Institute for LGBT Studies. Beth is a “pracademic” with decades of public health practice and policy experience prior to joining the faculty of Indiana University and now UofA. Her research focuses on systems and policy in harm reduction and sexual health. She currently serves on the national board of Lambda Legal and the American STD Association. Beth, her wife Jill and son Jake live in Tucson.

Dr. Sally Dodds is a retired professor of psychiatry and medicine at UofA, and is current affiliate faculty with the Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW). Formerly Sally was also a professor of psychiatry at the University of Miami (FL) where she did a significant amount of research in HIV/AIDS. Currently, she is conducting research with the UA College of Nursing studying compassion meditation with cancer survivors. She is currently involved with community philanthropy.
